The Constitutional Counseling Program is a consultation program that looks at the body in four broad forms and, in finer detail, eight types. It takes a different perspective from the widely known Sasang classification of Soeum, Soyang, Taeeum and Taeyang: the type is identified by considering the body's inborn form together with the habits and eating patterns a person has lived with until now.
Working from the type identified in this way, the heart of the program is to go through the foods and daily habits that suit that person, one by one. Rather than handing down a fixed answer, the consultation looks back over current eating habits together and finds a direction that can be kept up without strain.
Grains are taken as the foundation of the diet. This follows the view found in classical medical texts, which regarded grains as a staple broadly suited to everyone, and it draws on the long pattern of grains forming the base of meals across different regions and environments.
Vegetables, on the other hand, are seen as something that may or may not agree with a given person. So rather than simply increasing vegetables across the board, the consultation selects the kinds and amounts suited to each person's body type. The detailed procedure and costs are explained during a consultation at the clinic.
